A unnamed Russian mogul has paid the record sum of 752 million dollars for a 20 acre villa known as Villa Leopolda. Villa Leopolda is on France's Mediterranean coast and one of the most glorious mansions in the world, located between Nice and Monte Carlo.
The wealth of Russian billionaires has been highly publicized recently as another Russian billionaire acquired Donald Trump's Palm Beach property for what now seems like the paultry sum of $95 million. Naples, FL most expensive and recent sale was $40 million. Although some exist that have surpassed that in construction cost, many exist that are much more reasonable and within the grasp of most.
The price of the Villa Leopolda, a Belle Époque (French for Beautiful Era) mansion on the heights of Villefrance, has far exceeded the 1 Franc paid for it 100 years ago by King Leopold II of Belgium. Local are concerned with that the influx of Russian money on the Côte d'Azur is getting out of hand.
Since the early 1990s, Russian oligarchs, drawn by memories of the Riviera-mad old Russian aristocracy, have been buying up seaside properties at Cap Ferrat, Cap d'Antibes, Saint-Tropez and the other great playgrounds.
None, however, have come near the price with which this unnamed Russian clinched the Leopolda deal, but there is a property currently under construction in Mumbai that crushes this record.
While in New York in 2005, Nita Ambani was in the spa at the Mandarin Oriental, overlooking Central Park. She found the contemporary Asian interiors so striking that it prompted her to inquire about the designer.
Nita Ambani was no ordinary tourist. She is married to Mukesh Ambani, head of Mumbai-based petrochemical giant Reliance Industries, and the fifth richest man in the world.
Forbes magazine estimated Ambani's net worth at $43 billion in March. Reliance Industries was founded by Mukesh's father, Dhirubhai Ambani, in 1966, and is India's most valuable firm by market capitalization. The couple, who have three children, currently live in a 22-story Mumbai tower that the family has spent years remodeling to meet its needs.
Like many families with the means to do so, the Ambanis wanted to build a custom home. They consulted with architecture firms Perkins + Will and Hirsch Bedner Associates, the designers behind the Mandarin Oriental, based in Dallas and Los Angeles, respectively. Plans were then drawn up for what will be the world's largest and most expensive home: a 27-story skyscraper in downtown Mumbai with a cost nearing $2 billion, says Thomas Johnson, director of marketing at Hirsch Bedner Associates. The architects and designers are creating as they go, altering floor plans, design elements and concepts as the building is constructed.

Here in Naples Florida we have numerous properties inspired by both architecture and names of places along the Mediterranean. Naples was of course borrowed because of it's likeness to the open, natural and unspoiled bays and waterways through the area as well as it's gorgeous sunsets.
St Tropez, Cap Ferrat, the to-be-built Cap d'Antibes and the Monte Carlo are just a few of our spectacular offerrings. Cote d'Azur just happens to be one of our fine French restaurants in the area along with Bleu Provence.
